The Vietnam Sanitary and Phytosanitary Notification Authority and Enquiry Point (SPS Vietnam) said that after two online inspections of Vietnam’s fresh durian plantations and packing facilities, the General Administration of Customs of China (GACC) has approved 246 planting area codes and 97 durian packing facility codes eligible for export to China.

Mr. Ngo Xuan Nam, Deputy Director of SPS Vietnam Office added, recently, China has been considering  another 36 growing area codes and 18 packing facility codes for approval in the next time.

For a number of plantations and packing facilities in Vietnam that are not currently in compliance with the requirements of the Protocol, Mr. Ngo Xuan Nam recommended that there should be solutions to overcome in order to be considered and approved in the near future.

It is a plantation that requires a certificate of good agricultural production (GAP) or activities and records at the plantation in accordance with GAP.

Farmers should focus on hygiene management of the planting garden. It is noteworthy that most durian gardens have not been approved by the General Department of Customs of China due to lack of weed management measures. The planted garden has the appearance of mixed plants and there was no effective isolation measure for the surrounding gardens.

Farmers should have records and books on management, recording and monitoring of harmful organisms in the garden.

According to Mr. Ngo Xuan Nam, being granted additional planting area codes and packing facility codes, Vietnam will expand the path of exporting durians to China.
