According to the report of the General Department of Forestry, basically in 2021, the forestry sector successfully completed the assigned plan targets: In 2021, the whole country planted 277,830 hectares of forest, reaching 102% of the plan. Thanks to the promotion of forest planting and protection, the forest coverage rate has reached 42.02%, an increase of 0.01%, reaching the planned target. In 2021, the total number of violations of forest protection regulations decreased compared to 2020. The whole country detected 2,653 violations, down 13% compared to the same period in 2020. The total damaged forest area 2021 is 1,229ha, an increase of 527ha, equivalent to 75% over the same period. The cause of the increase in the area of damage caused by forest fires is due to the complicated COVID-19 epidemic in some provinces, so when a forest fire occurs, it is not possible to mobilize the fire force, but must implement social distancing in provinces such as Thua Thien Hue. , Gia Lai... leading to an increase in the area of forest fire damaged by fire. About 32 million m3 of timber was harvested, reaching 100% of the year plan.

In 2021, despite the impact of the Covid-19 epidemic affecting the production, processing and consumption of wood and forest products, the General Department of Forestry has always been proactive and regularly coordinated with associations and businesses. processing and exporting wooden furniture and forest products to grasp the situation. From there, it advises the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to have solutions to solve difficulties for businesses. At the same time, the General Department of Forestry also monitors and guides businesses to implement and handle international trade disputes. Thereby helping businesses reduce difficulties, restore and stabilize production to maintain the growth of the industry. As a result, the export turnover of wood and forest products in 2021 will reach about 15.87 billion USD, up 20% compared to 2020, the full-year trade surplus of the forestry industry is estimated at 12.94 billion USD, up 21.2 billion % compared to 2020. In addition, in 2021, the whole country obtained 3,115 billion VND from forest environment services, reaching 111% of the annual collection plan and increasing 20% over the same period. Of which, the Central Forest Environmental Service Fund collected VND 1,922 billion, and the local Fund collected VND 1,193 billion.

In 2022, the forestry sector sets a goal to strive for: concentrated afforestation of 230,000 hectares (protection, special-use, and production forests); planting 122 million scattered trees; harvesting timber from production forests is about 31.5 million m3 (exploited from concentrated plantation forests 21 million m3; exploiting scattered crops and home garden plants 5.5 million m3; rubber wood 5 million m3; striving for metal production). export turnover of wood and forest products reached 16 billion USD, revenue from forest environment services was 3,000 billion dong.

Speaking at the Conference, Deputy Minister Le Quoc Doanh acknowledged, praised and was especially impressed with the results and contributions of the forestry industry in the general difficult context of 2021 - a very difficult year because of the COVID-19 epidemic. , but exports of wood and wood products have hit a new record. Especially the efforts of the business community, associations and the responsible companion of the General Department of Forestry have actively and flexibly overcome difficulties to promote production and export. The development and implementation of regulations on coordination between the General Department of Forestry and associations and businesses is a "model" that needs to be promoted and replicated.

In addition to the achieved results, the General Department of Forestry also frankly acknowledged the limitations and causes, especially the impact of the COVID pandemic on forestry production activities. In addition, there is still deforestation, illegal transportation and storage of forest products, and resistance to law enforcement officers in a number of key areas such as the Northwest, the Central Highlands, and the South Central region. The main reasons are due to the lack of productive land, the situation of free migration, the conversion of forest land to industrial and agricultural crops and illegal exploitation of natural forests.

To achieve the above objectives, the General Department of Forestry has proposed 10 groups of solutions, in which the focus is on ensuring the progress and quality of the development of legal documents; organize the effective implementation of key strategies, master plans, programs and projects; continuing to implement Directive No. 08/CT-TTg dated March 28, 2019 of the Prime Minister on a number of tasks and solutions for sustainable development and development of the wood processing industry and non-timber forest products for service. export service; focus on coordination in preventing trade fraud of a number of exporting enterprises, controlling the felling of timber imported from countries with high risks of illegal timber origin; strengthen the management and protection of forests and forest fire prevention and fighting; implement sustainable forest management and forest certification.

Deputy Minister Le Quoc Doanh emphasized that in the coming time, the General Department of Forestry should continue to perfect the sector planning and build a system of legal documents. Organize the effective implementation of approved projects and programs. Forest protection must be paid special attention to, and regular, timely and close coordination with localities./
