In August 2024, Vietnam signed protocols for the export of frozen durians and fresh coconuts to China, opening significant opportunities for agricultural products.
Immediately after this agreement, many enterprises signed large export contracts, with some securing deals to supply up to 1,500 containers of coconuts to the Chinese market. In the United States, Vietnamese agricultural products, especially coconuts, passion fruits, and other fruits, are becoming increasingly popular, promising enhanced promotion and growth in the future.
As for Thailand, adverse weather conditions this year have reduced agricultural production, prompting the country to increase imports from Vietnam for domestic consumption or re-export to China.
Mr. Dang Phuc Nguyen, Secretary General of the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association, noted that China represents a massive market for fruits and vegetables, particularly Vietnamese durians.
With the growth in export volumes in recent months, Vietnam is poised to surpass Thailand as the largest exporter of durians to China within the next 1-2 years.
Vietnam’s fruit and vegetable exports this year are projected to reach approximately 7.2 billion USD.
China continues to be Vietnam's largest export market for fruits and vegetables. As of the end of October, fruit and vegetable exports to China exceeded USD 4 billion, accounting for 66.5% of Vietnam's total export turnover in this category (up nearly 30% compared to the same period in 2023). Currently, 12 types of Vietnamese fruits have been officially exported to this market, with total export turnover this year estimated at approximately USD 4.5 billion.
