On December 16, the Central Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention and Control in coordination with the German Development agency (GIZ) held a Plenary meeting to summarize international assistance activities in disaster risk reduction in 2020.

At the ceremony, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Nguyen Hoang Hiep said that, in the face of the serious impact of natural disasters in the Central region, the Government of Vietnam and the Central Steering Committee for NCPD has implement many activities to mobilize and call for support from international community.

Responding to the call, the Disaster Risk Reduction Partnership (DRRP) and international agencies have taken timely and practical action to support the affected people in the Central region. Of which, 32 organizations have joined hands in relief activities with a total amount of about USD 25 million (equivalent to more than VND 600 billion), through three sources: the Central Steering Committee for natural disaster prevention and control; self-implementation organizations and the Central Vietnam Red Cross.

In particular, through the Vietnam Disaster Management Authority (VNDMA), international organizations has provided cash and goods support to the most severely damaged provinces, with a total value of about VND 84 billion (USD 3.6 million). These supports have been distributed to the affected provinces.

"The due attention given to Vietnam reflected the humanitarian value in the work of the international organisations and the effective operation of the Disaster Risk Reduction Partnership (DRRP)" Deputy Minister Nguyen Hoang Hiep emphasized.

Director of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) in Vietnam, DRRP Co-Chair Andrew Jeffries shared that ADB and the DRRP had come to affected provinces and offered technical and financial assistance to locals. The Asian Development Bank will continue to stand side by side with Vietnam in the prevention and control of natural disasters and mitigation of their risks.

Ms. Tiaji Maynell Sio, from the German Embassy in Vietnam underscored consistent cooperation of the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) with Vietnam in the work. GIZ, along with other organizations, always promotes cooperation with Vietnam in natural disaster prevention.

At the Ceremony, representatives of DRRP has shared issues related to disaster prevention, assistance, coordination in natural disaster prevention and control, and at the same time committed to continue to accompany Vietnam in NDPC in the coming time.

"I believe that, with these meaningful activities, people in areas affected by natural disasters will soon recover and stabilize their lives. According to forecasts, natural disasters will become more and more severe. We hope that the coordination will be even more durable to contribute to better support those at risks. All needed conditions will be made available to facilitate the operation of the partnership" expressed Vice chairman ofthe Central Steering Committee for natural disaster prevention and control Tran Quang Hoai.
