Currently, Vietnam has allowed 24 countries to export meat to Vietnam; of which, 19 countries are allowed to export pork and pork products to Vietnam. So far, 788 enterprises from these 19 countries have shipped pork and pork products to Vietnam; and 108 Vietnamese enterprises import pork and pork products.
Speaking at a meeting with pig farming enterprises at the end of March, Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung assigned the Ministry of Finance to consider and propose tax cuts on pork import soon; in which, the policy of tax reduction and exemption for pork-importing businesses from the United States.
The Deputy Prime Minister also assigned the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to coordinate with the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to provide maximum support to Vietnamese businesses, which are seeking suitable suppliers to import pork in line with the direction of the Prime Minister.
Following the Prime Minister's instructions to promote pig repopulation, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has directed and guided localities, as well as worked with businesses to push pig repopulation and to reduce pork prices.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the rate of pig repopulation in the first quarter of 2020 reached 6.3%, but for 15 large farming units, the rate reached up to 17%.
Department of Animal Health also said that, as of April 13, Vietnam imported more than 37,104 tons of buffalos and beefs; in which, beef increased about 200% and buffalo meat increased 135% over the same period in 2019. Buffalo meat was imported mainly from India, beef mainly from Australia, the United States, Russia and Canada. ..
