On February 6, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) Nguyen Quoc Tri worked with the delegation of the Korean Forestry Agency, led by Deputy Minister Lim Sang-Seop. The working session focused on evaluating implemented projects and implementing plans in 2023 in the field of forestry.

At the beginning, Deputy Minister Nguyen Quoc Tri thanked Mr. Lim Sang-Seop and the staff of the Embassy and the Korean Forestry Agency for actively coordinating with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to promote bilateral cooperation activities. In the field of forestry between the two countries in recent years, especially the Korean Government, has sponsored Vietnam programs and projects related to enhancing adaptability to climate change, typically Project of planting and restoring mangroves in Vietnam has been implemented in 2022.
The Deputy Minister hopes that the coordination in 2023 will be multiplied, to not only deepen the relationship between the two countries but also make an important contribution to mitigating the impact of global climate change.
Knowing that Korea is a country with a lot of experience and strength in science and technology, Deputy Minister Nguyen Quoc Tri expressed his desire to cooperate and support from you in a number of specific projects, such as Garden Cooperation. hi-tech incubator according to Korean standards, in the context that Vietnam is in the process of implementing the restructuring of the forestry sector towards the development of a multi-use forestry industry, with a focus on improving productivity, output, value of planted forests, especially focusing on planting large timber forests. In addition, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development also proposed Korea to support training staff in the field of high-tech tree nursery techniques (using self-destructing potting technology); techniques for planting and taking care of forests and sustainable forest management.
Regarding the proposal of the Vice Minister of the Korean Forestry Agency on the REDD+ program, Deputy Minister Nguyen Quoc Tri assigned the Department of International Cooperation to be the focal point and coordinate with the Forestry Project Management Board, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development. Forestry exchanges and works with the Korean side to develop cooperation programs in the field of forest protection, digital transformation, carbon certification, ... and complete related procedures.
On the Korean side, Mr. Lim Sang-Seop affirmed his willingness to cooperate in the application of technology in forestry with Vietnam through two agencies, the Research Institute of Plantation and the Research Institute of Seedlings.
Korea is a country with a large percentage of timber imports, Vietnam is one of our big customers. The proposal of the Forest Department on a mechanism to ensure legal timber, the Korean side also has a mechanism to recognize this content. Mr. Lim suggested that the two sides promptly reflect on the problems in implementation so that they can be resolved soon to make the trade of wood and wood products more favorable between the two countries./.
