Mr. Nguyen Quang Hung, Deputy Director of the Directorate of Fisheries said, in the first six months of 2021, the weather situation is relatively favorable for aquaculture and fishing. However, in the first months of the year, the Covid-19 pandemic continued to develop complicatedly, affecting life, economy and society, disrupting global supply chains and directly affecting production, export and import and consumption of seafood products. At the same time, the situation of drought and saltwater intrusion in the Mekong Delta is complicated, affecting aquaculture; The European Commission continues to keep the “yellow card” warning for Vietnam’s exploited seafood.
However, in the first six months of 2021, the seafood industry has achieved many positive results. It was estimated that by the end of June 2021, the total fishery production reached 4.1 million tons, up 3% over the same period in 2020, of which the fishing output will reach nearly 2 million tons (up 1%), aquaculture output reached 2.1 million tons (up 4%).
Compared with the target of the first six months of 2021, the total production reached 104.3%, of which the fishing production reached 106.8 %, the farming production reached 102.3 %. And compared with the target of the whole year 2021, the total fishery output reached 47.6%; in which the exploitation output reached 51.9%, the aquaculture production reached 44.2%.
