Tea was the most exported product to Asia in the first quarter of 2023, the proportion of exports to this region accounted for 83.3% of the total tea export value, up 4 percentage points over the same period in 2022. The export value of tea to Asia reached 29.2 million USD, showing a 1.7% increase compared to the first quarter of 2022. In particular, tea exports increased sharply to China, Saudi Arabia and India.
While the proportion of exports to Asia increased, tea exports to Europe and America decreased in the first quarter of 2023.
Tea exports to Europe were primarily directed towards the Russian market, and the significant decrease in export value to Russia had an impact on the overall export results to Europe. The export value of tea to Russia in the first quarter of 2023 reached 3.2 million USD, indicating a 16.9% decrease compared to the same period in 2022.
Tea exports to the Americas experienced a sharp decline due to a significant reduction in exports to the US market. The export value to the Americas in the first quarter of 2023 reached 1.4 million USD, showing a 51.9% decrease compared to the first quarter of 2022, with the US market accounting for 95.5% of the export value.
