From December 31st, all tra and basa fish processed products for exports are required to use the trademark as  basa fish on the package.

This is concluded in the Decision 1921/QLCL_CL1 issued by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development. The Decision was sent to processing and export businesses as well as agro-forestry-aquatic product quality centers.

According to the decision, exporters must identify scientific names, and trade names of tra and basa fish from the importers.

Currently, there are more than 150 countries and territories importing tra and basa fish processed products. According to Nguyen Nhu Tiep, Head of National Agro-Forestry-Fisheries Quality Assurance Department, enterprises need proactively to work with importers to get the fish’s scientific and trade names from each country if they want to be granted with export license.

According to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP), requiring seafood export businesses to put the commercial name of basa on the package is to create a trademark for Vietnam’s fisheries sector in the long run.
