The year 2021 ends with a series of difficulties due to the direct impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on the economy, including the Tra fish industry. If in 2020, the Tra fish industry is affected by the blockade order in the main export markets, in 2021 it will be affected by the Covid-19 epidemic.

Tra fish production, processing and export chains have been strongly affected, making the whole industry face many difficulties. Particularly in the months of July, August and September, 2021, the Tra fish farming area decreased by 30-55% and the output decreased by 17.9% compared to the same period in 2020, due to many localities in the Mekong Delta implementing social distancing. . Many seafood processing enterprises have temporarily suspended or stopped their operations, due to the inability to meet the cost burden and the "3 spot" condition.

In that context, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) promptly implemented many options such as establishing a special working group 970, coordinating with the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Transport, the Ministry of Industry and Trade and localities to directly deal with the problem. problems arise in production; organize a number of conferences to discuss solutions to overcome difficulties and obstacles for seafood production and consumption in general; hold a separate conference to discuss solutions to develop the Tra fish industry... As a result, aquaculture production results in 2021 will still maintain growth. Specifically, aquaculture production for the whole year reached 4.81 million tons, up 1.1% compared to 2020; in which Tra fish production reached 1.52 million tons, up 1.63% over the same period in 2020. Tra fish export turnover in 2021 reached 1.62 billion USD, up 8.4% over the same period last year. prior to. This is a spectacular comeback of the Tra fish industry in 2021.

According to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP), in 2021, despite facing the Covid-19 epidemic, Tra fish exports will still increase by 8.4% compared to 2020, export turnover will reach over 1.61 billion USD. Currently, the price of commercial Tra fish is at 29,500 - 30,000 VND/kg, an increase of 4,000-5,000 VND/kg compared to the last months of 2021. According to VASEP, Vietnam's Tra fish import markets are recovering and good growth forecast in 2022; Therefore, the price of export Tra fish will increase, because the costs of farming, materials, labor, logistics... all increase.

From the above factors, according to the MARD, the Tra fish industry plans to produce with commercial fish output of 1.6-1.7 million tons; export turnover will reach over 1.6 billion USD in 2022.

Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Phung Duc Tien said that the raw Tra fish market in the Mekong Delta signaled a quick recovery. New opportunities from the export market in 2022 are opening. Currently, the increase in the price of raw Tra fish is an important premise for the development of production and consumption in 2022, but there are also many potential risks for the stable development of the industry. In the 2022 plan, Dong Thap province will stock 2,200 ha of Tra fish area (up 4.7% compared to 2021) with an output of 495,000 tons (up 1.8% compared to 2021). Tra fish fry production is 24,000 million fish (up 28.3% compared to 2021), Tra fish seed production is 1,750 million fish (up 55.4% compared to 2021).

The key task in 2022 is to improve the quality of seed, strengthen chain cooperation with small farmers to ensure production stability, continue to implement the project of joint production of Tra fish seed 3. high quality level in the Mekong Delta…

To achieve targets, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development requires localities to improve the quality of Tra fish breeds, direct the production and supply enough high-quality seed to improve production efficiency, reduce losses, and lower prices. Businesses and farmers continue to promote cooperation and chain links to ensure stable output.

In order to achieve good results in 2022, Deputy Minister Phung Duc Tien suggested that the General Department of Fisheries and relevant functional agencies under the Ministry need to coordinate with localities, properly assess the current situation promptly provide solutions to overcome difficulties to develop the Tra fish industry effectively and sustainably./.
