On May 24, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) Le Quoc Doanh had a meeting and worked with Mr. Raúl Juan Pollak Giampietro, Uruguayan Ambassador in Vietnam. The two sides made commitments to promote cooperation in the field of agriculture, especially exchange of science and technology.

At the meeting, Deputy Minister Le Quoc Doanh welcomed Ambassador Raul Pollak Giampietro to accept his assignment in Vietnam and expressed his belief that in his assigned position, the Ambassador will be a bridge of friendship to cultivate foreign relations. The relationship has a 30-year foundation between Vietnam and Uruguay in general and agricultural cooperation in particular.

Ambassador Raúl Juan expressed his appreciation for the welcome received by the leaders of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and said he would resume diplomatic cooperation between the two countries after a period of interruption due to Covid-19. In particular, special attention will be paid to the agricultural sector on the basis of the meeting of the Uruguay - Vietnam Joint Committee on economic cooperation, trade and investment. In the coming time, we hope to achieve positive results in agricultural trade cooperation between the two countries.

The MARD also hopes to promote agricultural relations between the two countries, in addition to agricultural trade, Vietnam's agricultural industry wants technical support or advanced production technology from Uruguay.

Deputy Minister Le Quoc Doanh expressed that agriculture is an important field for Vietnam, with the role of ensuring food security for more than 100 million people. Vietnam also exports many agricultural products with a large volume, reaching approximately 50 billion USD in export value in 2021, up more than in 2020 under difficult conditions due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Agriculture has achieved encouraging results in recent years, but still not commensurate with the country's potential. Therefore, in the new development phase, the Prime Minister has approved the Strategy for the development of the agricultural sector with orientation to 2030 towards a fast and sustainable development of agriculture.

The Uruguayan Ambassador commits that he is willing to share with Vietnam the most advanced production technologies and also looks forward to exchanging from Vietnam the strengths in science and technology. In the near future, the Uruguayan Food Institute will sign a Memorandum of Understanding in cooperation with the Mekong Delta Rice Institute.

"Hopefully the two sides can consider continuing to implement unfinished cooperation projects, complete the cooperation proposal as soon as possible and concretize potential cooperation in the future," said Ambassador Uruguay.

In addition to promoting agricultural trade between the two sides, especially technical assistance, Vietnam needs to consult and help with new and advanced techniques in agriculture to help increase productivity and quality of agricultural products while supporting the preservation of agricultural products, environmental protection and reducing greenhouse gas emissions./.
