The cassava industry has set a target that by 2028, the export turnover of Vietnam's cassava industry will reach 2 billion USD per year and to reach 2.5 billion USD per year in 2050.

According to Mr. Nghiem Minh Tien, Chairman of Vietnam Cassava Association, in the last 10 years, development growth of Vietnam's cassava industry has increased strongly. Cassava planting area is up to about 530,000 ha per year, output is over 10 million tons of fresh cassava per year. Export turnover of cassava products to China, Korea, Malaysia... increased from 0.958 billion USD in 2018 to nearly 1.5 billion USD in 2022.

Cassava and the processing industry from cassava starch have contributed to creating jobs for over 1.2 million workers, making a significant contribution to poverty reduction, socio-economic stability for many localities in the country.

Over the years, the cassava growing area of Tay Ninh has continuously increased. By the end of 2022, the province has nearly 62,000 hectares of cassava; average yield is over 32 tons per ha. Currently, the province has 65 cassava starch processing factories, with a total capacity of more than 4 million tons of cassava per year.

In the future, Tay Ninh will continue to maintain and develop cassava growing area from 55,000 to 65,000 ha per year; improve productivity and aim to control cassava leaf mosaic disease by new varieties with high yield; at the same time, continue to innovate processing technology, invest in chain development, diversify products for deep processing after starch; make use of the by-products after processing, improve the value of cassava starch production chain in the province.

The Vietnam Cassava Association has proposed solutions and directions such as maintaining the cassava area nationwide from 500,000 to 520,000 ha/year. Limiting unfair purchasing competition, causing general damage to the domestic cassava industry; safe control of diseases on cassava; invest in expanding the application of advanced technology in processing, raising the rate of deep processing after cassava starch from 6.7% to 15%; Expanding and diversifying markets…
