Vietnam currently ranks 5th in the world in tea exports, and 7th in global tea production. Vietnam's tea products are currently exported to 74 countries and territories. Up to now, Vietnam has 34 provinces and cities growing tea with a total area of 123 thousand hectares.

Despite the Covid-19 pandemic, Vietnam's tea export growth to many major markets has been stable. According to the report on the whole tea industry in 2020, the 11-month production reached 175,000 tons, the whole year is estimated to reach 180,000 tons. 11 month tea exports through official channel reached 124,000 tons, up 1.3% over the same period in 2019. Estimated domestic consumption for the whole year remained at 45,000 tons with product structure of 51% of black tea, 48% green tea and other 1% tea.

Sharing difficulties, challenges and lessons learned over the past 5 years, Mr. Le Van Duc - Deputy Director of the Department of Crop Production said, “In the past time, our tea industry has made remarkable progress. The Tea Development Research program has been implemented for the past 20 years. The program has created more than 30 new varieties of tea with high quality.
